2021 City of Sun Valley Election Information

QUALIFICATIONS TO RUN FOR CITY OFFICE:
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen
  • The candidate's primary residence must be in the City of Sun Valley
  • The candidate must be registered to vote, and the address of the candidate's voter registration must match the residence address provided on the candidate's declaration.
  • The candidate must have resided in the City of  Sun Valley for at least 30 days prior to submitting their declaration.

IMPORTANT DEADLINE DATES

August 23 City Candidate filing opens

September 3 at 5 pm Candidate filing deadline

September 10 Deadline for the city clerk to certify candidates

September 10 at 5pm Write-in candidate filing deadline

September 13 at 5pm Ballot Question Submission deadline

October 12-29 Early Voting

October 22 at 5pm Absentee Ballot Request deadline

November 2 Election Day

The candidate must file a Declaration of Candidacy.  The Declaration of Candidacy must either be accompanied by a Petition of Candidacy signed by at least 5 qualified City of Sun Valley electors (the petition must have an attached certification from the County Clerk indicating the number of signatures that are of qualified City of Sun Valley Electors); OR a non-refundable filing fee of $40.00 paid to the City Clerk upon filing.
