DEPARTMENT INFORMATION
The Community Development Department is committed to providing a high level of professional planning service to the public, development community, the Mayor and City Council, Planning and Zoning Commission and other City departments. It is our goal to serve the needs of these important stakeholders in a responsive and timely manner. Primary responsibilities include current, long-range and special project planning. Additionally, the Department implements the functions of code enforcement, building permit review and economic development. Being proactive in public outreach mandates we ensure the community stays informed and highly involved in all decision-making processes. The Department includes the building division to realize its commitment to a seamless chain of services.

Long range and special project planning generally include:
- Comprehensive Plan Amendment
- City Code / Development Code Amendment
- Zoning Map Amendment
- Area of City Impact Agreement / Map
- Annexation
- Special projects, e.g. hillside and open space preservation, public trail development and project coordination with other public agencies and groups
The Community Development Department has been actively involved in several significant development projects of regional importance, including the Sun Valley Pavilion, Sun Valley Golf and Nordic Center, Sun Valley Gun Club, White Clouds Golf Course, and the Elkhorn Springs Development. Current major projects include the Lane Ranch North Subdivision, the Sun Valley Water and Sewer District infrastructure expansion and White Clouds Subdivision. By actively leading the planning and development review processes, the Department ensures that any physical and economic growth is in accordance with the vision of preserving the unique character of Sun Valley. This vision also guides the Department in its current, long range and special project planning.
